do you ever have one of those moments where all that comes to mind is "wow?" i am totally experiencing a moment (or quite a few moments) of pure shock right now where the only thing my mind will process is "wow" and "omg."
after spending the day going to church, grocery shopping, making soft pretzels from scratch (more on that later), and watching the cowboys play, marsh kindly accompanied me on a walk around our apartment complex. as we were walking we noticed the back of one of the buildings looking completely torn up. i thought, "maybe they are doing construction,"or "that can't be on our property, doesn't even look like our apartments." our curiosity took us around the front of the building to see yellow caution tape in front of a whole building and all the doorways boarded up. this particular building is right across from the swimming pool so i just thought maybe something happened awhile back. due to the recent rainy weather we have not been to the pool and without trips to the pool we never see this particular building. as we walked further on, inspecting the damage, we both concluded it had to be a fire for the shear volume of destruction and the smoky burnt smell still lingering in the air. a security guard was parked outside the building so marsh asked what happened.
at 3 am this morning a huge fire engulfed an ENTIRE building in our apartment complex, merely one minute away from us. firetrucks and sirens were all over the man said. we never heard a single thing. its unbelievable to think that something you read in the newspaper or see on the news actually happens in your own apartment complex. luckily no one was hurt really bad. the fire did leave at least 17 families homeless as of this morning. they said they merely had enough time to gather everyone in their family and run out the building. one women was said to have jumped from the 3rd story to get out! my jaw is still hanging rather close to the floor. its so surreal. i pray that if something like that ever happened to us that we would be able to react as well as these families did. i am terrified at the fact that i heard nothing when there were flames big enough to see from the interstate. i slept soundly through it all.
right now prayers go out to these homeless families. as well as prayers that hopefully it was a mere fluke and the same fate will not land on any number of the remaining buildings left. investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of the fire.
wow, i am still reeling in pure shock. click the title for a link to channel5 news.
