this past weekend, marshall and i were able to add 3 new states to our ever growing list of states we have been to. on the way to visit danielle and andrew in st louis we passed through kentucky, illinois, and then ended up in missouri. it was so weird to think, "i am in missouri right now."anyway we had a fabulous weekend and it was so great to finally see my best friend! so great that it will take at least 2 posts to tell you all about it!
first of all we pulled up to an adorable antique-looking apartment and toured their first married apartment. st louis has gorgeous architecture, stuff you don't normally find yourself looking at. after exploring thru their apartment and laughing with them at the random odds and ins found in their apartment (such as a random small door with a chute leading to who knows where and the peep holes!), we walked to the nearby park. now, if you have yet to see a true fall do yourself a favor and drive up north (nashville is also gorgeous right now). the trees look like they are on fire, so vibrant with shades of red, yellow, and orange. while walking home from the park, i stupidly opted to join in on the throwing of the frisbee through the neighborhood. and of course i nailed a car. that was the last time i threw a frisbee! once back at the apt we decked out in our halloween gear: me as pumpkin pie, marsh as pop quiz (or pop secret!), danielle as a tv remote, and andrew as a tv (ya know, because she turns him on..... haha!) we celebrated the night with dinner and exploring more of st louis!

saturday was the big day. after staying up till early in the morning we all managed to sleep in and get a late start. we headed to their version of little italy, "the hill," for a yummy italian lunch. from there we wandered downtown taking in everying including the capitol, i mean the old court house. st louis is famous for the arch.
the arch is a giant silver arch nestled in downtown. its such crazy architecture and you can even ride to the top. you load up in a pod (seriously no bigger than a minute) and they zoom you to the top. then you get out and realize that you are forever high into the sky! its a small, long room where tiny horizontal windows lay for your viewing pleasure. it was one of the coolest things i have ever done! you can see all of st louis from there and you can even lay down and look below you! my stomach dropped way too much to actually look all the way below me. its too much of a weird feeling!next stop was the zoo. best stop of my life. st louis zoo is free. yes, i wrote that correctly, free! can you believe that? and its an amazing zoo. the best part was the penguins! of course i would say the penguins but it was truly one of the best moments of my life! outside is home to the jackass penguins (not making that name up). they are adorable to look at! we stayed there for a bit then wandered inside to see the other penguins. emperor and rockhoppers have to stay in a colder environment, thus being kept inside. this was the best penguin exhibit i have ever seen. i looked up and there perched on a rock right above me, were 2 rockhoppers! if i wasn't so short i could have reached out and touched them. then i walked up to the glass to check out the other penguins and i am not making this up, i could have touched one there too! the glass wall reached up to my chest and other than that piece of glass there was nothing else stopping me from my penguins (other than the grumpy old lady who worked there and would scream, "we never touch a penguin!" if you tried to touch one. my question: why make it so tempting if you don't want people to try?) i stood literally in awe of the penguins. rockhoppers and emperor penguins would swim past me and even right up to the glass. i was so nervous one might try to bite me or i would have gone in to pet one! funniest thing ever, were the 2 rockhopper penguins standing on the rocks. apparently there was a fan because they stood right up next to it and you could see there feathers flying in the wind! freaking hilarious! now the best part ever was when the penguins swimming by me splashed me! yep, i have been splashed by a penguin!
one of the greatest moments of my life! it came as quite a shock, one minute i was in awe, the next minute i was soaking wet! then not more than 5 minutes later, i was splashed yet again!
oh but it was totally worth it! now i can say i was literally right next to a penguin with not much between me and my penguins! and i was even splashed by 2!on that amazing note, i leave you to it! st louis to be continued another day!
enjoy!
I almost stole this little fat guy! oooooh i was sooo tempted!!
