small town for a day

one day around the first of january when marsh had a whole week off we opted to explore franklin, tn for the day. franklin is a small town just a few minutes away from us (i am so bad at time, maybe 20 minutes away, if even) nashville is slightly odd when defining the city boundaries. we live in nashville but were on the edge of brentwood. further south is cool springs, then franklin. yet when you think you are in cool springs you are in fact in franklin, same with brentwood and nashville. i digress.

downtown franklin has this picturesque historic small town feel to it. we lucked out and napped a free 4 hour parking spot and then set off on our journey. everything is within walking distance and the weather wasn't too cold (not like we are experiencing now, freezing weather with snow flurries!) come to find out there are mostly one-of-a-kind shops that any girl who loves to shop (me) would love. there was a music store that we explored for marsh but other than that he had to endure shop after shop with me. the clothes were unreal, beautiful pieces of fabric that you could purchase with the knowledge that not everyone would have that already (not like with any store found in a mall.) with beautiful fabrics come outrageous price tags so it was look, daydream, but then put back for me. i did find this adorable metal ring in the shape of a bow. its to remind you that you are loved. its so simple that i just had to have it and it was cheap (yay!). i wear it everyday. i have always wanted a ring that would be my staple, something to wear every day (other than my wedding ring now) and i finally found it! yay!

there was this quaint irish pub that could probably sit maybe 30ish people. we popped in there for a bite to eat (which was delish) then continued on our way. they had some adorable antique stores that i fell in love with. i am big time into antiques right now. but vintage, classic not just a trashy place with actual garbage items but a place that contains rare finds that delight the human eye. there was an old bookstore that we went into. this was marsh's favorite part. i quite enjoyed it but definitely enjoyed more time in the boutiques. i could not imagine dropping the amount of cash on a old book that they were asking for. i like the idea of collecting old books but when it comes down to it i would just rather spend it on clothes or jewelry. thats just me though.

once we where finished exploring downtown we went to the factory. apparently it is this famous place in franklin so we thought we would check it out. not having a clue at what we were getting into we stormed in with a clear mind. the factory is incredible. this is an old factory revamped to house stores, businesses,
restaurants, and studios for classes. it was incredible to take in! they had a massive antique store where i found gobs of stuff i desperately wanted. being the self controlled woman i am i held out for bookends and a vintage necklace. we really wanted bookends for our new bookcase and we found a set we loved! peacocks, so adorable! i also found
this vintage necklace i just couldn't resist.  that was the best picture i could get of it!
the rest of the factory was really cool too, some stuff were closed though for the holiday but i loved the factory!
our trip to franklin was such a nice trip. i sometimes imagine what it would be like to live in a small town and think it could be fun (think stars hollow from gilmore girls) but then i just know i would more than likely go stir crazy (not to mention gilmore girls is a tv show and probably isn't as idyllic as they paint!) i am a city girl, i want the city! but its nice to getaway occasionally and experience the small town lifestyle for a day!
